NACDS RxIMPACT pharmacy tours are back in action — and reports from the field have been extremely positive.

On May 5, U.S. Rep. Jake LaTurner (R-KS) visited a Dillons Food Stores (The Kroger Co.) in Topeka, Kansas, where he discussed with pharmacy team members issues of vital importance to pharmacies and the patients they serve.

Specifically, Rep. LaTurner learned more about pharmacies’ ongoing role in the COVID pandemic response — including the fact that pharmacies provide more than two of every three COVID vaccine doses.

At times, during the height of the COVID pandemic, the Dillons location that hosted Rep. LaTurner was providing up to 400 COVID vaccine doses per week.

During the tour, the Dillons pharmacy team described the unique convenience and accessibility of community pharmacies, noting that the bipartisan Equitable Community Access to Pharmacist Services Act (HR 7213) would help improve patient access to consistent, timely and equitable pharmacist healthcare services – for future public health emergencies and beyond.

Additionally, they thanked Rep. LaTurner for his continued work to help achieve comprehensive pharmacy direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fee reform, and detailed pharmacies’ value and experience in collaborative, team approaches to healthcare delivery and access.

At the end of the NACDS RxIMPACT tour, Rep. LaTurner urged the pharmacy team to continue their strong advocacy on behalf of patients — and to keep up their work to make these important pharmacy issues known.
