Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) got answers to his questions on vaccinations, patient access and provider status legislation on a recent NACDS RxIMPACT pharmacy tour at BI-LO in Beaufort, S.C.

Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) came into his NACDS RxIMPACT pharmacy tour of BI-LO in Beaufort, S.C., with questions about his constituents’ ability to access and afford medications. The congressman also asked the pharmacy team specifically about H.R. 592, the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act, which would elevate pharmacists’ ability to improve patient health. Sanford expressed an interest in vaccines and told the pharmacy team that he had gotten the flu recently, which gave him an appreciation for the need for patient access to influenza vaccines.

The pharmacy team outlined the advantages of pharmacist-provided medication therapy management (MTM) services and explained how MTM can help reduce overall healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes. The pharmacy team said the congressman appeared to be genuinely interested in the many takeaways on the value of pharmacy he learned about.
