Local interviews available with pharmacists in New York State

On April 1, 2023, New York State implemented a major reform to its Medicaid pharmacy program, known as NYRx. This shift has greatly improved access to pharmacy care for its residents and is saving the State millions of dollars by no longer paying health plans and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) to administer the program.

The Pharmacists Society of the State of New York (PSSNY), the Community Pharmacy Association of New York State (CPANYS) and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) released a joint statement today on the six-month anniversary of the transition:

“We commend Governor Kathy Hochul and state legislators for staying the course and for keeping the promise to New Yorkers by enacting this highly successful program. Patients experienced an extremely smooth transition from managed care to NYRx, and six months later, they are enjoying enhanced access to lifesaving medications and other essential pharmacy-based services in both rural and urban areas across the State.

“We are pleased to mark this important six-month anniversary. For New York’s eight million Medicaid patients, NYRx is the right solution to meet their pharmacy care needs.”
