In response to a recent New York Times article painting pharmacies’ response drug take-back initiatives in a negative light, NACDS submitted a letter to the editor of The New York Times expressing support for drug take-back programs, but emphasized inherent flaws in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s current policy mandating pharmacies to establish the programs.
Citing safety concerns for consumers, NACDS stated that participation in drug-take back efforts should be voluntary so pharmacies can assess their capabilities in managing prescription drug disposal receptacles on a store-by-store basis.
