In honor of American Heart Month, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) has released a series of digital content showcasing the role of NACDS member pharmacies in helping patients support their heart health through prevention and management of cardiovascular disease.

NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson said: “During American Heart Month, we are proud to recognize NACDS members’ work to protect patients against the harms of chronic health conditions like heart disease, which is the number one cause of death in the U.S. Pharmacies and pharmacists are uniquely positioned to deliver total health and wellness solutions to communities nationwide. Notably, 85% of adults in the U.S. say pharmacists are easy to access — and 73% support pharmacists helping patients prevent chronic disease such as heart disease and diabetes.”

The campaign complements the broader “Nourish My Health” initiative, part of a commitment by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores to the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health and a collaboration with leading health organizations. Nourish My Health is reaching millions of Americans, including those who live in rural areas and communities that are underserved. The campaign amplifies the importance of preventive screenings and raises awareness of the power of nutritious food as a part of lifestyle changes to improve health outcomes.

In November, in recognition of National Diabetes Month and as part of the broader Nourish My Health public education campaign, NACDS featured member pharmacies’ essential role in diabetes prevention and management through a series of social posts, which can be accessed here.

In addition to partnering health organizations, NACDS member pharmacy companies are participating in Nourish My Health at select locations — leveraging scheduled wellness events, immunization clinics, and American Heart Month.
