NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson issued the following statement today upon the successful markup and bipartisan passage of additional PBM reform bills by the Health Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee:

“The Health Subcommittee’s extremely productive markup today further strengthened the bipartisan consensus between the House and Senate for meaningful PBM reform that is essential for all Americans and for all pharmacies that serve them.

“NACDS continues to call for real PBM reform, which at the federal level must include Americans on Medicare and Medicaid and their pharmacies. Congress is doing the hard work to turn this unique moment of focus into effective action on this crucial issue. The PBMs will say and do anything to complicate, to confuse, and to block the solutions that Congress has made quite straightforward. It is time for Congress to finish the job.

“NACDS recognizes the continued bipartisan collaboration of Health Subcommittee Chair Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Ranking Member Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), and Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Ranking Member Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ).

“We are seeing clear alignment between committee action in the House and in the Senate on PBM reforms for Medicare and Medicaid. NACDS also voices the critical importance of the Neighborhood Options for Patients Buying Medicines (NO PBMs) Act and vital enforcement provisions, which have been included in legislation passed by the Senate Finance Committee and which merit a commitment to action in the House. NACDS calls on House members to strongly back H.R. 5400, which is crucial for reasonable and relevant PBM contract terms in Medicare, as opposed to the middlemen’s pharmaceutical benefit manipulation that devastates seniors and pharmacies today.”

NACDS continues to advertise on the need for real PBM reform in Medicare and Medicaid.
