Arlington, Va. – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) recently received two separate awards recognizing NACDS’ commitment to fostering forward-thinking initiatives that benefit employees and the community.

NACDS received national designation as one of the 2018 Best Workplaces for Commuters, which recognizes employers that offer outstanding employer-provided commuter benefits that meet the National Standard of Excellence criteria. To be designated among the nation’s Best Workplaces for Commuters, employers must provide benefits that result in at least 14 percent of their employees no longer driving alone to and from work within a 12-month period. The Best Workplaces for Commuters program offers designated organizations access to a range of support services to advance non-driving commuting options for employees.

Because of NACDS’ honor as a 2018 Best Workplace for Commuters, NACDS was acclaimed at the local level by Arlington Transportation Partners, a division of Arlington County Commuter Services, as a Gold Level Champion, as recognized by the National Center for Transit Research and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Gold Level distinction highlights NACDS’ commitment to active and sustainable transportation initiatives that encourage its employees to use various modes of transit. NACDS is one of 53 companies in Arlington Country to reach Gold Level recognition.

“NACDS members are highly engaged in the well-being of their communities, and NACDS’ attention to commuter issues is one of the many ways that this Association reflects the membership,” said NACDS President & CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “Focusing on these topics helps NACDS contribute to mitigating traffic, to fostering sustainability, and to creating a positive workplace.”

NACDS places a high value on giving employees the tools they need to help with the challenges of transportation in the highly-congested Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The Association offers a subsidized transit benefit, including SmarTrip cards, to help offset the cost of commuting. NACDS also subsidizes parking for employees who drive or carpool to work, and bike parking is available as well.
