INFORM Consumers Act

NACDS today applauded the inclusion and advancement of the INFORM Consumers Act (H.R. 5502) as part of the America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing, Pre-Eminence in Technology, and Economic Strength Act of 2022 (America COMPETES Act). The U.S. House of Representatives passed the America COMPETES Act today by a vote of 222-210.

The INFORM Consumers Act would crack down on organized retail crime networks and protect consumers and retailers by promoting transparency and accountability of online marketplaces.

“Passage of the INFORM Consumers Act through the U.S. House of Representatives marks a vital step forward in combating organized retail crime networks, safeguarding online consumers from illicit products and fraud and protecting in-store consumers and store teams from criminal activity,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson. “NACDS is greatly appreciative of the leadership of Representatives Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) in advancing the INFORM Consumers Act in the House, and urges the Congress to keep the legislation on its steady path toward becoming law.”

The House version of the larger competitiveness legislation is expected to be conferenced with the U.S. Senate’s United States Innovation and Competition Act of 2021 (USICA). The House and Senate must pass legislation in identical form before it can be presented to President Biden for signature.
