The NACDS Total Store Expo shined in sunny San Diego, CA, with a “total store, total person” approach to health and wellness. From August 12-14, NACDS-member retailers and suppliers converged at the San Diego Convention Center to collaborate, connect and foster strategic business partnerships that will help drive the future of the industry.

NACDS’ Health Education Campaign with American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Tufts University Reflects Future Focus of “NACDS 2023” Initiative

NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson said of the event in an August 18 column:

“The NACDS Total Store Expo revealed the legacy and the future of NACDS in this dynamic 90th Anniversary celebration.

“Innovation truly abounds in the ‘NACDS 2023’ Initiative – which sustains NACDS’ commitment to advancing pharmacy while building a total store, total person approach to health and wellness.

“This ‘Pharmacy Plus’ vision was on full display at the NACDS Total Store Expo.

“A new and exciting ‘Nourish My Health’ public education campaign, which will help Americans rise above diet-related chronic disease, provides an excellent example of the proactive trajectory of NACDS. NACDS is honored to partner with the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the Food is Medicine Institute at Tufts University on this campaign.

“Please watch the NACDS-TV recap of Sunday’s events at the conference. Discussing #NourishMyHealth, you will see Dr. Laura Makaroff, the American Cancer Society’s senior vice president of prevention and survivorship, and – representing the American Heart Association – Dr.  Christopher Gardner, a professor in the Department of Medicine at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.

“Through ‘Nourish My Health,’ NACDS and our partners will help Americans set themselves up for health and wellness through screenings, and use nutritious foods to help prevent and reverse risk for diet-related disease. This campaign is part of NACDS’ commitment to the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. It also is integral to the very future of NACDS.

“Also as part of the ‘NACDS 2023’ Initiative, NACDS is bringing a new focus to pharmacy data interoperability, specifically through a report by Leavitt Partners that is urging data-sharing that drives pharmacist-provided services. NACDS also is working with the prestigious Milken Institute to make food prescriptions a reality for patients in the pharmacy and at retail. NACDS also has emerged as a leading-edge convener of health and wellness stakeholders to broaden the role for the entire NACDS membership in keeping Americans healthy. These are among the far-reaching and future-focused work of the ‘NACDS 2023’ Initiative.

“Common themes throughout NACDS 90 years include passion for pharmacy and for retail, the relationship between retailer and supplier, and this industry’s collective bond with the American consumer. From that perspective, NACDS’ heritage and destiny remain vibrant and integral to the health and wellness of individuals, communities, and the nation. The 2023 NACDS Total Store Expo certainly validated that point.

“Thank you for your engagement in NACDS, your trade association.”
