NACDS continues to advance “NACDS 2023” – a member-driven initiative that is innovating the Association’s approach to serving retailer and supplier members as they bring a “total store, total person” vision to health and wellness – in the pharmacy and beyond.

Last week, NACDS delivered “NACDS 2023” themes in formal comments for a hearing of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry Committee focusing on nutrition aspects of the Farm Bill.

NACDS also emphasized in the comments the public policy recommendations that it contributed to the September 2022 White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health – recommendations reflected in the Biden Administration’s “National Strategy” on these issues.

On Super Bowl Sunday, NACDS participated in the Arlington Food Assistance Center’s (AFAC) “Empty Bowls” fundraiser – featuring handmade ceramic bowls crafted by local potters and ceramicists, and soups, breads, and desserts donated by local restaurants, bakeries, and volunteers:

NACDS’ statement to the Senate Agriculture Committee notes the Association’s long-standing collaboration with AFAC:

“To reflect similar and extensive work of member companies, NACDS for more than seven years has engaged with AFAC. Whenever NACDS has a forum to address nutrition issues, the Association takes the opportunity to spread the message that Americans can play an important role in improving the health and wellness of their neighbors by volunteering or contributing to local food banks and other entities that confront food insecurity.

Particularly following the pandemic and amid a time of inflation, food insecurity has intensified and the needs of food banks have only escalated. NACDS thanks members of the Committee who personally help to raise awareness of these needs in their states and communities.”

NACDS’ work to advance “NACDS 2023” and to sustain the focus of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health continues next week — on February 28 and March 1 — when NACDS will convene a stakeholder meeting in Washington, D.C. for continued collaboration and action.
