House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Vice Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY) speaking at this year’s NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill, March 25-26.

House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Vice Chairman Brett Guthrie was honored this year at NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill with the NACDS Congressional Leadership Award for introducing H.R. 592, which enables Medicare beneficiaries to access pharmacist-provided patient care services.

At the signature advocacy event, participants urged Congress to support the provider status legislation, in addition to other pro-pharmacy priorities, on more than 460 congressional visits. During a simultaneous Virtual Hill Day, advocates participated in the largest letter writing campaign ever, generating nearly 2,000 letters to 201 Representatives and 82 Senators urging them to support the legislation. Since the event on March 25, the bill has garnered five additional cosponsors in the House: Reps. Ted Poe (R-TX), Scott Peters (D-CA), Christopher Smith (R-NJ), Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) and Michael Doyle (D-PA).

There are currently 83 cosponsors for H.R. 592 in the House and 10 cosponsors for similar provider status legislation, S.B. 314, in the Senate.

NACDS continues to follow up with congressional offices to underscore the importance of the pro-patient, pro-pharmacy legislative priorities outlined in the letters.
