U.S. Chamber’s Josten to Give NACDS Annual Political Flair

By: | Feb-23-15

Arlington, Va. – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) announced Bruce Josten, executive vice president for Government Affairs for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as the keynote speaker for the NACDS Political Action Committee (NACDS-PAC) breakfast during the 2015 NACDS Annual Meeting.  Josten will address attendees on Monday, April 27 in Palm Beach, Florida.

Josten serves as the second ranking officer and senior government and political affairs executive of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, managing six major divisions within the organization, including congressional and public affairs, economic policy, technology and regulatory affairs and political affairs.  A dominant force in Washington, D.C., the U.S. Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of more than three million American businesses of all sizes as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.

“Bruce is known as a driving force behind the U.S. Chamber’s work to re-write the rules of political engagement, at one of the most politically volatile times in our nation’s history,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE.  “One of the objectives of the NACDS-PAC Breakfast each year is to help attendees identify key factors that are shaping the policy and political environment. It is perhaps more clear than ever before that understanding this playing field demands an understanding of the U.S. Chamber’s determination and influence.”

It is not unusual to see the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s engagement in the 2014 Congressional elections described as “the most aggressive political cycle in

[the organization’s] 102-year history,” as it was in a CNN story – and in similar quotes across diverse media outlets. This characterization was earned through a disciplined effort to identify pro-business candidates who have the courage to govern, and to support their campaigns early and heavily, even if it meant engaging in a primary election.

Josten is quoted regularly by The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Business Week, Fortune and National Journal, and has been interviewed on Meet the Press.  Josten was named one of POLITICO’s “50 to Watch,” and CEO Update named Josten its first Association Lobbyist of the Year in 2014.

Offering a unique opportunity for more than 2,000 of today’s most influential retail executives from drug, food and mass merchandising and their supplier partners to share insights and build relationships, the NACDS Annual Meeting will take place April 25-28.

The bipartisan NACDS-PAC supports Congressional candidates who understand and help to advance pro-pharmacy and pro-patient policies.
