Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s (D-MD) staff members got an excellent firthand look at the major role pharmacy plays in healthcare on a tour of a Giant Pharmacy in Rockville, Md., today.

Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s (D-MD) staff members toured a Giant Pharmacy in Rockville, Md. today as part of the NACDS RxIMPACT program and the experience was positive for both Van Hollen’s team and the Giant Pharmacy team.

The pharmacy team got to showcase all the services they offer patients, including immunization services, travel clinics, health screenings, heart healthy classes, community outreach, and more. The pharmacy team discussed the importance of supporting NACDS-backed provider status legislation–H.R 592/S.109–and highlighted the essential role pharmacy plays in medically underserved communities. They also took time to administer flu shots to the staff members.

Following the pharmacy tour, staff member Karen Hendricks wrote the team to thank them and said, “We both learned so much and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I don’t recall having a better experience getting a flu shot!”

A Morning Consult poll commissioned by NACDS underscores pharmacy’s value and accessibility in Maryland, showing that 90 percent of voters in Maryland say pharmacies are easy to access.
