Rx Response—an initiative of the bio-pharmaceutical supply chain to ensure the continued flow of medicine during times of emergency—has moved to alert status in response to the concern about Ebola in the United States, the organization announced last week.
Rx Response is urging the pharmacy community to be a measured and reliable resource by letting patients know the risk of Ebola infection in the United States is very low. Rx Response also is encouraging pharmacists to emphasize that there are many other common diseases and conditions that are far more likely to have similar symptoms to acute Ebola infection, such as influenza. Rx Response is also asking pharmacists to underscore the importance of getting the flu vaccine.
Rx Response has developed a number of resources for community pharmacists, owners and retail pharmacy staff, including an Ebola Resources webpage; guidelines for pharmacists; and a new blog, “What can be done across the health care community to best respond to What can be done across the health care community to best respond to infectious diseases like Ebola?”
