Arlington, Va. – NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE, issued the following statement today upon the release of a report of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis:

“NACDS appreciates and commends the work of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, which will serve as a catalyst for further collaboration and action in helping to create solutions to this epidemic.

“Consistent with pharmacy’s ongoing work to bring about a simultaneous zero-tolerance for abuse and 100-percent commitment to patient care, NACDS contributed its perspective to the Commission’s work. We appreciate that many concepts urged by NACDS and by others have been incorporated into the report released today.

“In addition, many of the concepts in the report are consistent with new public policy recommendations that NACDS issued last week, based on first-hand experiences of pharmacists on the front lines of patient care and intended to build on pharmacy’s ongoing engagement on this issue.

“NACDS remains committed to working for collaborative solutions that will be meaningful and effective for the individuals, for the communities and for the nation whom pharmacies serve every day.”
