NACDS staff members volunteered this week for local nonprofit, the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC). The team harvested a variety of healthy vegetables in an effort to get the produce into AFAC facilities before the frost sets in. Volunteers harvested an impressive 3,325 pounds of vegetables at the United States Department of Agriculture Research Facility. The majority of vegetables immediately went into AFAC’s grocery distribution to those in need. AFAC distributes groceries to nearly 2,200 families every week; over 35 percent of the people they serve are children, and 30 percent are elderly individuals.
