NACDS RxIMPACT Pharmacy Tours are essential in connecting legislators to pharmacies in their congressional districts. The tours highlight pharmacy’s contributions to improving healthcare delivery. Several recent tours have helped to educate lawmakers on pharmacy’s extensive efforts to help confront the opioid abuse epidemic.

Here are examples of recent tours that highlight pharmacy’s commitment to being part of the solution:

Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Rep. Mimi Walters (R-CA) – both members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee – participated in events at Walgreens locations in their congressional districts and reported on them in their newsletters to constituents. Both of their events were related to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. “I stopped by a Tustin (CA) Walgreens with members of the Tustin Police Department to discuss their regular Prescription Drug Take Back Day program that operates throughout the year,” Rep. Walters wrote. “It was a great chance to learn more about how opioid abuse is impacting our community and the steps being taken by law enforcement to stop it.”

Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) – who serves on the House Ways and Means Committee’s Health Subcommittee – toured a CVS Health in her congressional district. “I had the chance to tour a CVS facility and meet with pharmacists whose mission is helping people find successful methods to improve their health,” Rep. Jenkins wrote. “After visiting the pharmacy, we discussed the CVS Health efforts as they work to find solutions to the opioid abuse that’s plaguing our nation.”
