Rep. Kurt Schrader (D-OR) went on an NACDS RxIMPACT pharmacy tour at the New Albertson’s/Sav-on Pharmacy in Lake Oswego, Ore., yesterday—with standout results. The pharmacy team said they had a very positive meeting with the legislator, showcasing community pharmacy at its best.

The team explained the challenges inherent in pharmacy and the need for an expanded role for pharmacists as healthcare providers. Division Pharmacy Manager Zac Blackwood indicated the congressman was particularly interested in recently introduced legislation (H.R. 4190) that would designate pharmacists as healthcare providers under the Medicare program. The team made a point of illustrating to the congressman how far pharmacy has come in the healthcare delivery system and gave a clear picture of the positive direction pharmacy is headed.

Following the tour, Blackwood said, “I am really excited to work more with Rep. Schrader to push pharmacy to the next level.” He added, “Thank you for the opportunity to ‘brag’ about pharmacy to our leaders!”
