Richard Locklear, project specialist for Senator Robert Menendez, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, visited the Ravitz Family ShopRite of Garden State Pavilion in Cherry Hill, N.J. on January 16. The pharmacy team–Jeffrey Mondelli, Simit Patel and Judy Sorin–provided Locklear with a hands-on tour. The team explained the entire prescription process to Locklear, from intake to dispensing to verification, which gave him a better understanding of how a prescription makes its way to the patient.

The pharmacy team highlighted the accessibility of pharmacies in the community and the essential role pharmacists play in ensuring medication compliance, providing vaccinations and working directly with patients on managing chronic conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. The team also emphasized the importance of the medication therapy management (MTM) services and supporting the MTM legislation currently in Congress.

Legislators and their staff members come away from NACDS RxIMPACT pharmacy tours better informed about how pharmacists are key in providing face-to-face consultations with their constituents, which leads to better overall health outcomes.
