An administration official from the Department of Health and Human Services, Rhett Buttle, spoke during the meeting about the Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment, which begins on November 1, 2015. HHS is seeking partner engagement on facilitating outreach and education efforts to raise awareness nationwide about open enrollment. Buttle asked for input from NACDS member companies on ways they would be willing to commit to assisting with open enrollment, such as retail events that promote exchange open enrollment, educational webinars and social media campaigns.

Following the meeting, five NACDS member company executives headed to Capitol Hill to meet with staff members in more than 30 House and Senate offices to garner additional support for H.R. 592/S. 314, the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act. The legislation would enable pharmacists to provide services to Medicare patients in underserved communities, within scope of practice laws, which would improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.
