NACDS, The National Community Pharmacists Association and the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy joined forces in a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Seema Verma.

The groups express “strong support and appreciation” to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for its recent proposal on pharmacy direct and indirect remuneration (DIR) fees. The letter urges HHS to “act swiftly in finalizing the proposed language to amend the definition of negotiated price to ensure that all pharmacy price concessions are accounted for at the point of sale beginning in 2020, and to simultaneously approve a standard set of metrics from which plans and pharmacies base contractual agreements.”

The groups emphasize that this kind of significant action would show the administration’s commitment to reducing out-of-pocket costs for seniors and providing support to pharmacies and the patients they serve.
