Arlington, Va. – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) has named as its new director of federal government affairs Vonnie Hampel, who most recently served as senior legislative assistant and press secretary to U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA). Hampel managed health policy issues for Rep. Loebsack, who serves on the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee.

Vonnie brings the policy, politics and press trifecta to NACDS, with impressive experience earned on Capitol Hill and on federal and state campaign teams.

“Vonnie brings the policy, politics and press trifecta to NACDS, with impressive experience earned on Capitol Hill and on federal and state campaign teams,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “She will contribute to NACDS’ all-branches and all-levels of government approach to healthcare advocacy, which includes issue expertise, grassroots empowerment and proactive communications. Her attentiveness to serving constituents while working for Congressman Loebsack will translate well to NACDS’ member-centric focus, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”

Prior to starting with Rep. Loebsack in May 2012, Hampel served as legislative assistant and press secretary for former Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK). Previously, she served in positions of increasing responsibility for former Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL), and as finance assistant and field organizer for Chuck Caputo for Delegate, a state legislative campaign in Virginia.

Hampel is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned a B.A. in Political Science and minored in Hispanic Studies. She studied abroad at Estadios Universitarios Y Superiories de Andalucía (EUSA) in Sevilla, Spain.

Hampel started at NACDS today. She reports to Tom O’Donnell, vice president of federal government affairs, within NACDS’ Government Affairs and Public Policy Department, which is led by Carol Kelly, senior vice president of government affairs and public policy.

“We are particularly pleased that Vonnie has joined the NACDS staff team prior to NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill – March 16 and 17. We look forward to introducing her to the NACDS membership,” Anderson said.
