Newly-elected Rep.Andy Biggs (R-AZ, center), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, toured an Albertsons pharmacy in Mesa, Ariz., this week.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) was already familiar with NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill and the legislative priorities discussed that day because Team Arizona met with him in his D.C. office on March 7. This week, Rep. Biggs was able to go behind the scenes on his pharmacy tour at Albertsons in Mesa, Ariz., to see firsthand why the policies discussed back in March matter so much to his constituents.

The pharmacy team talked to the congressman about the importance of a nationwide prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) to curb opioid abuse, opioid legislation at both the state and federal levels, and support for provider status legislation, the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act (H.R. 592/S. 109). Albertsons’ Stacy LoVerde, district pharmacy manager, said, “The congressman truly saw the best of the best. The conversation was natural and impactful. It is a privilege to do these tours and I enjoyed being a part of it.”

During a pharmacy tour of Genoa Healthcare in Phoenix this week, the legislative director for Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) had the opportunity to discuss provider status legislation and NACDS’ policy recommendations on combating the opioid abuse epidemic with the pharmacy team.

As part of ongoing member engagement on key issues surrounding opioid abuse, CVS Health, Rite Aid Corporation, The Kroger Co., and Walgreen Co. attended an Opioid Roundtable with House Energy and Commerce Committee member Rep. Robert Latta (R-OH) in Northern Wood County, Ohio.
