Watch this new video to learn more about the NACDS Foundation Scholarship Program, which has provided nearly $4.5 million in scholarships since 1997 for pharmacy education thanks to the generous support of the program’s benefactors.

NACDS Foundation’s commitment to pharmacy education has led to more than $200,000 in grants and scholarships. The scholarships are awarded each year to accredited U.S. schools and colleges of pharmacy. The NACDS Foundation Scholarship Program funds projects that have the potential to advance patient care.

Pharmacy school deans submit applications on innovative educational programs that will improve patient care. Companies that support the program attend the award ceremony, which takes place during the NACDS Annual Meeting.

Richard Ashworth, PharmD, president of operations at Walgreen Co., was one of many NACDS-member company executives at the event this year. Ashworth said, “The NACDS Foundation has been fantastic for patient care and for advancing the pharmacy profession in communities all across America, but especially with diversity and also in areas where there is medically underserved access.”

A Johnson City Press article on one of this year’s scholarship recipients, East Tennessee State University’s Gatton College of Pharmacy, talks about the school’s program to boost student diversity. Dr. Debbie Byrd, dean of the college, said, “Recruiting first-generation college students from Appalachia goes straight to the heart of our mission to improve healthcare in rural and under-served communities. This grant will allow us not only to enhance our diversity in our pharmacy school but also in the profession.”
