NACDS attended an opioid conference this week to applaud the signing of opioid legislation, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act (H.R. 6), hosted by House Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee Member Markwayne Mullin (R-OK). Mullin has been a consistent partner in working to support legislation that will help combat the opioid abuse crisis. The conference concluded a series of roundtables that Rep. Mullin has facilitated since 2016 and briefed the community on the new resources made available to them through the bill.

Mullin said, “At our first roundtable in Claremore, community leaders and representatives brought problems and ideas to the table. Two years later, I am proud to say that together, we have found solutions at the federal level that will give our communities the resources they need to combat the crisis next door.”

Notably, Rep. Mullin was the lead sponsor of NACDS-backed legislation, the Every Prescription Conveyed Securely Act, to require electronic prescribing for Schedule II through V controlled substances prescriptions covered under Medicare Part D to help prevent fraud, abuse and waste, provisions of which were included in the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act.
