Last week, the deputy district director and the district representative for Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) went on an NACDS RxIMPACT pharmacy tour at the Carlsbad Costco. Pharmacy Supervisor Brad Heiner said, “Neither had been inside a pharmacy before, so it was eye-opening to them to see the process behind the counter.” Heiner explained the pharmacy workflow from where prescriptions are received until they are dispensed to the patient. The women, Heiner said, were “impressed by the care that is taken to ensure that prescriptions are safe and accurate.”

Heiner showcased pharmacy an accessible healthcare option,  highlighting the services pharmacists provide, including immunizations, blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring, MTM services and disease state testing.

Heiner outlined the current provider status legislation in the House and asked the women to brief Rep. Issa on the bill, which aims to facilitate patients’ access to pharmacist services. Heiner was confident in answering their questions attributing his knowledge to what he learned participating in NACDS RxIMPACT Day on Capitol Hill in March.
