On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed NACDS-backed legislation, the Ensuring Patient Access and Effective Drug Enforcement Act of 2014, by voice vote. The bipartisan bill will focus on creating a collaborative, coordinated approach to preventing prescription drug abuse, while also ensuring patient access to needed medications.

NACDS worked collaboratively with patient and healthcare groups and sent a letter to the bill’s key advocates in the House, thanking them for their leadership on this critical issue.

NACDS President & CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE, said, “NACDS and chain pharmacy are committed to partnering with federal and state agencies, law enforcement personnel, policy makers and other stakeholders to work on viable strategies to simultaneously advance patient health and prevent prescription drug abuse.”
